The life calendar

A life calendar is a single page that holds an entire human life. Instead of one box per day (too many to see) or one per year (too few to feel), it uses one box per week: about 4,700 squares for a 90-year life, arranged 52 to a row so each row is a year.

The idea is old and simple, and its power is entirely in the compression. You cannot picture "thirty more years." You can absolutely picture thirty empty rows. The chart doesn't tell you anything you didn't know — it just makes a known fact impossible to keep abstract.
